How Not To Look Ugly On Google Hangouts?
Hangouts are becoming the best way to communicate online. HOA makes it easy to hold presentations online without paying to a webinar hosting company. The live streaming capabilities and YouTube integration make it the best feature of Google+. It can help you establish your brand or yourself as an expert in your field.
Am I using Hangouts? No, I’m not. But I’m preparing myself to face the camera soon. So, to know how not to look ugly on a hangout, (lol!) I was talking to a friend of mine, who runs a studio near to my office about how to look good on Hangouts without spending a lot of money. This is the summary of what we’ve discussed.
1. Use Decent Equipment
You need to have a good webcam and microphone. Most of the new computers and laptops come with a decent camera. You don’t need to have a professional setup. But check your cam to make sure it can provide you with presentable results.
2. Use Good Lighting
Good light is as important as your webcam quality. A good cam alone can’t do very well if you are sitting in the dark. Having a light facing you would be great. It’s okay if you don’t have one. You can make use of natural light and sit facing a window for example. One important thing to remember is not to have any lights behind you.
3. Use a Neat Background
Look behind you. You don’t want to distract your audience, do you? To make them focused on you, make sure you have a decent background.
Sit comfortably and look in your camera. This is important to transform your hangout in an enjoyable experience for everyone. Also make sure your position is in the center of the webcam and your eye level is the same as the level of the camera. Camera height is important. The view won’t be great if you place your laptop on your lap. Having a desk setup would be much better.
5. Choose a Quiet Place
If there is a lot of noise in your background, it can be annoying. Sitting in a quiet place can help your audience hear you clearly.
6. Optimize Your Connection Speed
Having good bandwidth is important to do hangouts. Always use LAN/Ethernet to connect to the Internet. Turn off the Wi-Fi and shut down programs and applications you’re not using. Do not upload or download materials while you’re in a hangout. That could hurt your bandwidth and disturb the show.
7. Make yourself presentable
It’s good to preview your video before you start your hangouts, to fix your hair if necessary and to make sure you look good.
See you on Hangouts then. Good luck!! :-)
